09 Jun Spotlight on Writing: Reception
Our Reception children have had a fantastic time developing their writing skills this term through their learning based on the story Naughty Bus. The children thoroughly enjoyed reading this exciting book, which follows the journey and adventures of a mischievous toy bus as it travels through a variety of unexpected places.
Inspired by the story, the children explored a range of writing opportunities. They enjoyed writing recounts of the Naughty Bus’s adventures, making predictions about where the bus might travel next, and creating their own imaginative stories and creative pieces.
We are incredibly proud of the progress the children have made in their writing. Reception pupils have excelled in their independent writing and confidently use our success criteria images to support their work. These reminders help children to remember important writing skills, including using full stops, leaving finger spaces between words, forming letters correctly, writing letters on the line, using capital letters, listening carefully for sounds in words, reading back their own work, and thinking of their own ideas before writing.
It has been wonderful to see the children’s confidence, creativity, and independence grow throughout the year. We look forward to seeing their writing continue to flourish in the final term of Reception.
