15 Jun Building like the Romans
Stepping into the shoes of Roman engineers, Year 4 designed and built their own aqueducts using recycled materials.
Following the design process, the children researched Roman aqueducts, sketched and planned their ideas, and then brought them to life using a range of recycled materials.
They showed fantastic creativity and problem-solving skills as they tested and improved their designs. The finished aqueducts were a wonderful showcase of both their engineering skills and design ability.
4CA Myla – ‘I learnt that some of the Roman aqueducts can be found across London today. I tried my best to recreate a Roman aqueduct by making sure it had arches and columns.’
4MH Ella- ‘ We made aqueducts out of cardboard columns and the arches out of paper. We made a base and a tunnel to roll the water down the aqueduct. It was tricky but fun because I got to be creative with our cardboard and figure out solutions to the problems we faced.’
4IR Zion – ‘It was really fun because we got to learn how the Romans transferred water from one place to another’
4MY Ana – ‘It was great fun making the aqueduct with my friends and learning what an aqueduct does. I like that we make things in DT and have fun working together.’
