02 Feb Year 2 Find out about Florence
Last week, Year 2 took a wonderful trip to The Gunnersbury Park Museum where they participated in a Florence Nightingale workshop. They learned about the timeline of Florence Nightingale’s life and her personal encounter with God that inspired her to be a nurse. Dressed up in costumes and using different Victorian artefacts, Year 2 role played as soldiers and nurses. Can you believe they used a chainsaw to treat wounded soldiers!?
Learning about the health risks within the Scutari Hospital gave Year 2 a glimpse into the challenges Florence was facing with her team of nurses. The workshop really built upon all that Year 2 have been learning in history about Florence, Mary Seacole and the Crimean War. After the workshop, Year 2 had the fantastic opportunity to explore life in the Victorian times further, by creating their own letter stamps and having a walk through a Victorian kitchen. What an amazing day of exploring history!
