20 Jun Food vouchers available throughout the Summer holidays
The Government has said it will provide food vouchers over the Summer holidays to children who rely on free school meals. The Government made the decision after a campaign by the Manchester United footballer, Marcus Rashford, who wrote a powerful letter about the issue to Members of Parliament.
This decision will help 1.3 million pupils in England – over 140 of these pupils are at Christ the Saviour.
Marcus Rashford told Members of Parliament about his own experience of receiving free meals at school and said “without the kindness and generosity of the community I had around me, there wouldn’t be the Marcus Rashford you see today.”
In addition to these food vouchers, we are continuing to run our fortnightly foodbank which has been very generously supported by our Parent Teacher Association. This is open to all families who are known to Christ the Saviour – families do not need to be in receipt of free school meals. This week, in addition to the food, cleaning products and baby packs we had some children’s books and other learning resources. Our next foodbank will be on Wednesday, 1st July from 11am to 1pm, at the Broadway Site – all are welcome.
