04 Nov Happy to have WAPPY!
It was a pleasure to welcome Councillor Grace Quansah to the Year 5/6 Celebration Assembly this morning.
Councillor Grace, a former parent at Christ the Saviour and good friend to the school, runs WAPPY. WAPPY’s aim is to develop the creative writing and illustration skills of young people, ages 4 -18 years from diverse backgrounds, and train them to become skilled performers of their creative work, which will be published, exhibited, recorded and/or produced in print or digitally later.
After some engaging call and response and wowing us with her famous friends and well-known faces from our school that have been involved in her past workshops, Councillor Grace told us about an exciting workshop she will be running soon. WAPPY will re-run, ‘Passing the Time Through Rhythm & Rhyme on the Windrush’, at Ealing Central Library, Ealing Broadway Centre on Tuesday 8th November 2022, 4.30-6 pm. During the workshop, participants will go back in time to discuss the ring & clapping games children used to play ‘Back Home’ and how they have been transported to the UK and become part of our playground lives today! This may be an especially interesting topic for our Year 5 and 6 children, to gain an initial understanding of this topic before the Windrush history unit in Year 6.
