03 Oct Floyd Steadman OBE
We kicked off Black History Month this week with a visit from an old friend of Christ the Saviour, Floyd Steadman OBE.
In our worship during Black History Month we are learning about the Christian Value of Endurance and reflecting on the scripture:
“Let us not become weary in doing good.” Galatians Ch 6 vs 9
Floyd Steadman is an inspiring individual who embodies the value of endurance and our Broadway pupils were mesmerised as they listened intently to his story. Our pupils heard about the many different challenges Floyd faced in his life when he was rejected by his father, forced to sleep in playgrounds and neighbour’s sheds, cared for in children’s homes, discriminated against because of the colour of his skin and forced to work with his hands and not take the lessons he wanted at school. Despite all this, he has approached adversity with grace and kindness – he became an elite sportsman captaining Saracens at the age of 23, he became the Headteacher of prestigious independent schools and he told us of his great friendship with Maro Itoje and his visit to Buckingham Palace to receive his OBE!
As always, our pupils asked thought provoking and highly empathetic questions and were left reflecting on things they found surprising, interesting and inspiring.
We have lots of Mr Steadman’s signed books in our class libraries – they are now updated with the OBE! A link to the Sky Sports documentary can be found here.
