13 Jul Faith in our Local Community
This half term Year 6 have really been enjoying their RE unit on ‘Understanding Faith in the Local Community.’ In this topic our Year 6 pupils gain and overview of the major world faiths and world views: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Sikhiam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Humanism. Pupils map out where the faiths are represented in Ealing through places of worship and centres and then choose one faith to find out about in further detail. Year 6 use their independent research skills to explore an aspect of the faith which particularly interests them and compare it to their own beliefs and practices. Pupils end the topic by presenting what they have found to their peers, sharing their knowledge and reflections with one another in a collaborative learning process.
One of the highlights of exploring faith in our local community has been visiting places of worship in Ealing. Year 6 childen were warmly welcomed to a local Gudwara, Mosque and Buddhist temple and enjoyed learning about the beliefs and practices of a faith different from their own.
