17 Mar Sports Leadership for Year 6
We were very proud to be invited to take a group of our Year 6 girls to be leaders at the Willow Tree Year 3/4 football festival on Friday 7th March at Wasps FC / Twyford Sports Ground.
The festival itself was a non-competitive event designed to give younger girls the opportunity to learn new skills, enjoy physical activity and experience the excitement of an inter-school event. The Year 3/4 children rotated, carousel-style, around a series of football-related activities.
Our sports leaders arrived smartly dressed in their school PE kit ready to be role models for the day. They were trained by the organisers on the various activity stations and then given a partner to work with. The younger girls, from a variety of primary schools in the borough, moved from station to station every 8 – 10 minutes, thoroughly enjoying each activity our leaders showed them. The morning soon went and after a quick lunch they prepared themselves to organise activities all over again for a second group of schools.
The organisers commented on the leaders’ excellent behaviour as well as their leadership skills. Ms Jolliffe also thought they did a great job of inspiring the younger children to have fun being active and trying something new. Well done Year 6s!
