18 Jun 3AK’s Potato Journey
Growing potatoes with children is the ultimate hands-on garden project full of outdoor fun and practical learning. This year, 3AK enjoyed the magic of planting several “seed” potatoes in February and then unearthing a harvest of delicious spuds this June. Next, Chef Sharon and the catering team worked with the class explaining how their soil covered potatoes would be turned into potato wedges for them.
It was wonderful to see the children’s excitement and enthusiams for gardening:
‘We all had different jobs caring for the potatoes. I was part of the watering team but my other friends used the little shovels or checked how tall they got.’
‘It kind of links my favourite food with nature.’
‘Digging up was fun it was like digging for treasure!’
‘Chef Sharon showed us photos of how they turned our potatoes into yummy wedges.’
‘I’d like to grow things at home like maybe carrots or peas.’
