Super Science Day

We ended the half term with a fanstastic whole school Science Day where pupils explored how books inspire us to learn about the world around us.

Each year group had a different book which inspired their experiments and activities throughout the day – if you would like to explore the books further yourself you can find them listed below:

Year 1: Man in the Moon by Simon Bartram

Year 2: If the World were a 100 People by Jacki McCann, Aaron Cushley

Year 3: How was that Built? by Roma Agrawal, Katie Hickey

Year 4: Beetles for Breakfast: and other wierd and wonderful ways to save the planet by Madeline Finlay, Jisu Choi

Year 5: Fourteen Wolves: A rewilding story by Catherine Barr, Jenni Desmond

Year 6: How to Win a Nobel Prize: A time travelling adventure for budding young scientists by Barry Marshall

The tasks ranged widely from exploring the physics of building spaghetti towers to helping scientists in Kenya count giraffes, from learning how to filter dirty water to extracting the DNA from a strawberry.

A huge thank you to Miss Gold, our Science and Technology Lead, who organised the day and led our super science assembly where we created a carbon snake, floated rings with magnets and ‘shrank’ an egg to fit into a bottle!  And a second thank you to all our parents who contributed by sending in videos of exciting extracts from science books. We loved watching those in our classrooms!
